Nadabet Indo-Pak Border History:
In March 1971, when East Bengal (Bangladesh or East Pakistan) declared independence, it became evident that Pakistan would launch an offensive against both Bangladesh and India, as India supported Bangladesh’s cause. By October, India, foreseeing the conflict, had fully prepared for war, bringing in the army to collaborate with the BSF, including in the Bhuj-Kutch border regions of Gujarat. On 3rd December 1971, after Pakistan Airforce’s limited success in attacking Indian airbases, India executed its counter-offensive. The BSF’s 3 Battalions in Palanpur, Gujarat, moved towards the Bhuj-Kutch border, now known as the Nadabet Indo-Pak Border. The BSF captured over 1000 square kilometers of Pakistani territory, including major cities like Nagarparkar and Virawah, demonstrating remarkable strategic success.
Nadabet Border Seema Darshan:
BSF and Gujarat Tourism have created an experiential destination called “Guardians at the Edge” at Nadabet Border, showcasing stories of valour and extraordinary courage. Located about 25 km from another visitor complex near Nadeshwari Mata Temple in Sui village, known as the T-Junction, this site offers a rich historical and cultural experience. The temple, built by the BSF, is where soldiers pray before their desert patrols, often guided by local Rabari cattle herders. The newly added single-lane road through the desert is a marvel, requiring BSF permission to traverse, with official air-conditioned buses soon to facilitate visitor access.
